Just be nice to those you love the most.

There are so many nice things to look forward to in the month of May. The days are longer, the sun is stronger and the trees are growing greener by the day.  Spring is such a wonderful time of year.  

One of our favorite days in May is Mother’s Day – a day we think is extra nice because you get to show someone special how much they mean to you.

It’s easy to get lost in our own busy lives and forget to tell our loved ones how important they are through the good days and the bad. It’s easy to forget to tell someone that you’ve known forever that you couldn’t ever imagine your life without them.

Let’s face it – mom’s make the world go round. They have been by our side from the very beginning – tending to skinned knees and scaring away the monsters under our beds. They’ll always be with us (physically or mentally) through college graduations, work promotions, and screaming grandkids. You can count on mom when things get tough and when you could just use an extra pair of hands.

This year on Mother’s Day, make a point to tell your mom (or step-mom, aunt, grandmother or sister) how much you admire her and love her. Take the whole day to show her how much you really care. Flowers, hugs, smiles, and long talks over brunches and lunches go a long way. Maybe you shouldn’t have gotten “that tattoo” or dated “that guy with the motorcycle”. Forget those arguments you’ve had in the past. This day is for love and for coming together to celebrate all the beautiful moments that life has given us to enjoy. When Mother’s Day has come and gone, you’ll realize how easy it is being nice to those that you love the most, every day…

On Monday, April 22nd, join us in celebrating Earth Day. Take a moment to think about what we can all do to be nicer to our planet. After all, it’s the only one we have! 

Remember, every nice deed matters, every nice deed gets noticed, and every nice deed has the potential to make a real difference. Nice deeds are gestures of kindness and help spread positive feelings all around the globe.

Your nice deeds can be something very simple. Start small. Our dad used to love going on long walks on the beach. While out on these adventures, he spent time picking up trinkets left behind by children and families or items washed up on the shore – broken toys, straws, barrettes, glass, and figurines. The bags that he filled during his many walks may seem very small and minute, but they made a significant impact on his environment. Doing things like this might take up a little bit of your time, but you and the world will surely benefit from your efforts. 

Enjoy the world we live in. You would most likely miss nice things – like fresh air, sunshine, new sights, and sounds. Ride your bike, take a walk in the park, and really enjoy the freedom and the exercise. While you are outside, always stay conscious of how to eliminate extra waste from your daily life. We all know in our hearts that it makes a big difference to keep your footprint on the planet small.

May your home always be too small to hold your friends. –Irish toast

For many, St. Patrick’s Day marks the beginning of spring and a time to celebrate with family and friends alike – those you’ve cherished for years and those you’ve just met. 

Here at Just Be Nice we are lucky enough to be making new friends every day, and we are delighted to keep in touch with those we first met a long time ago.

Recently were where contacted by Anaisita Freeman, a very lovely lady who started working at our father’s screen printing company in Tampa when she was only 16. She was kind enough to find us on Facebook to share with us several stories. She remembered our dad and mentioned he was “awesome”. She still has several of the very first bumper stickers that they printed when he first started sharing the Just Be Nice message with friends and strangers alike many years ago.  She applauded us for keeping the Just Be Nice message alive. Her comment was heartfelt and made us feel really good. 

The best part of Just be Nice is that we never know who is going to contact us with good news, a nice story, or just happy memories. Because of you, Just Be Nice has become a positive message we all share. This simple message has the power to affect everyone (especially us!) and always inspire positive change.

On event day, the Just Be Nice Foundation team wasn’t scared off by the 30-degree, snowy weather. They left their fears and modesty at home and bravely clad themselves in their finest undergarments, hot pink tutu’s, feather boas and warm furry hats, proving that fundraising can be lots of fun.  

This uplifting event targets those who are young at heart and those who believe that doing good can also be a good time.  The Just Be Nice Foundation is proud to have been a sponsor for this great event.

It’s a new year and with it comes new resolutions. Whether you have decided to loose weight, start a new hobby, commit to creating new “good” habits or getting rid of old “bad” habits, all of this can sometimes be a little overwhelming. So, with that in mind, here are a few suggestions to help make your life even more “nice” for you and everyone around you. We have a special gift for you and it does not cost you a thing. 

These suggestions should be a part of our daily lives. Just remember “Being nice makes you feel good, it makes others feel good, and these good feelings can really change the world around you.”

Here are six simple thoughts to keep in mind every day:

1) Be the first person to say “Hello”.  You can be certain you’ve made the best impression possible and can be proud of yourself for being kind.

2) Open doors for friends, strangers, children – hey, even dogs!  There’s nothing better than getting a door opened for you when your hands are full of groceries or when you’ve got a sleeping child in a stroller. 

3) Say “Thank You” to everyone throughout your day.  It’s such an easy thing we often forget. Even the people closest to you will appreciate the feeling of being appreciated.

4) Drive with a nice attitude. Excessive honking is never the right attitude. Don’t be shy with your turn signal either. Good manners on the road are an asset to staying calm, sane and alive.

5) Smile at everyone you meet.  Smiles warm the heart.  And a warm heart encourages kindness in us all.

6) Look for the “nice” in everyone you meet.  Even if you aren’t sure at first, chances are you will find something to admire in them.
